FISH

-
Parallel Nose Channel: Helps with early wave entry and maintaining planning speed on the wave. Also water is made to compress and speed up through the channel creating "lift", for increased stability when nose riding.
-
Added Width: Allows for early wave catching and maintain planing speed.
-
Soft 3/4 length rail: Makes the water spiral round the rail curve and hold into the wave face. This increases control and noseriding ability whilst weighting the tail rocker and tail rail at the back. When in normal surfing position it allows release to enable smooth controlled cutbacks, floaters and re-entries.
-
Rolled V: The "rolled v" through the bottom deck gives this board a smooth rail to rail transition.
-
Fin Set Up: This board comes as a 2 + 1 Set up (two sides and a longboard box center) in all sizes off the shelf apart from 9'8" and 10" which are installed with dedicated single fin boxes. Side fins are Fcs1 or Fcs2 on PU boards and Future system on epoxylite boards.
-
Construction: Ultimate Nose Riders come in either PU or Epoxylite construction. PU is the traditional construction of closed cell foam, stringer, fibreglass and polyster resin. Epoxylite is asuper lightweight open cell foam with stringer, fibreglass and epoxy resin to finish. Note all epoxy's are made abroard so custom option is not usually available.
-
Cloth: All boards feature 1 x 6oz + 1 x 4ozglass on deck and double 4oz underneath. With custom build we can add layers or change weights.
Shortboard Features:

-
Wide Shortboard Style Nose: Gives you better stability than a thinner nose, but really helps you turn on the wave face creating more mobility and liveliness than the round nose.
-
Flat Rocker: The low rocker in this board keeps you floating right on top of the water line making sure you paddle easily into waves without pushing to much water. Great for catching those smaller waves.
-
Added Width and step deck: Allows for easy paddling, enhanced stability, early wave catching and helps maintain planing speed.
-
Soft 3/4 length chinned rail: Makes the water spiral round the rail curve and hold into the wave face. This increases control and allows release to enable smooth controlled cutbacks, floaters and re-entries.
-
Belly: The "belly" in the center of the board helps give it a slight rocking motion keeping it gliding from rail to rail.
-
Fish Tail: The tail is very wide keeping the board stable and also allowing the wave to push you onto it. The two points of the V increase the pivot in your turns and act like two pin tails.
-
Fin Set Up: This board comes as a Quad set up. Super fast and easy to rotate. Fins are Fcs1 or Fcs2 on PU boards and Future system on epoxylite boards.
-
Construction: The Retro Fish comes in either PU or Epoxylite construction. PU is the traditional construction of closed cell foam, stringer, fibreglass and polyster resin. Epoxylite is asuper lightweight open cell foam with stringer, fibreglass and epoxy resin to finish. Note all epoxy's are made abroard so custom option is not usually available.

The Custard Point Retro Fish is probably our most famous surfboard. It not only looks great, but surfs great too. An incredibly high volume fish with a retro feel and simple curvaceous lines. Means you can catch those waves right out back and still throw it around like a shortboard.
At first glance the Retro fish is deceiving. It seems like a throw back to a bygone era but when you take a close look you realise how technical and modern the board actually is. It features a step deck which allows us to push all of that flotation right to the rail. Then chinned rails lift the underneath of the board to meet the deck with a nice soft edge producing hold in those faces whilst reducing the rail surface area to make sure it bites.
The wide fish tail offers stability and really helps you catch those waves early by increasing the surface area for the wave to pitch against. The large retro V increases pivot and with the sharpness of the tail allows for an easy rotaion in those turns.

The nose has a wide shortboard style profile and a beak to make sure the volume flows from tip to tail. The fins set up is a quad giving you control on the rail and loads of speed down the line. It also goes great as a more traditional twin fin which gives you something to play around with later on.

This board really is just a whole lot of fun. Good in small to average sized waves it's a perfect board for British waves. And it seems to be a board that long and shortboarders both agree on. We have even had people learn as complete beginners on the larger 7 foot plus models.

A great drop down from a mini mal as a board that still catches waves very easily but introduces you to those more shortboard style turns.

The Retro Fish range comes in the following sizes
6'6, 6'8, 6'10, 7'0, 7'2 and 7'4". And are available in both off the shelf and as a custom builds as small as 5'10.

I made a huge mistake by buying a shortboard before I was really ready. I walked in Custard Point with my head hung low. Lee explained how it was very common for people to do this and that I had simply jumped one step ahead of myself.
He advised I try the Retro Fish and hold on to the shortboard I had already to give me something to aim towards. I demo'd the fish and was blown away by the difference it made. I went from not catching anything to catching way more than I had before. And I could actually turn on the wave too. I went straight back to the shop and purchased a 6'10! and since then my surfing has got better and better and I have even managed to catch waves on the shortboard.
